You got your doc band the day before you hit the 9 month mark. And then dad and I left on a late anniversary getaway, and left you with Grandma and Grandpa Greenhalgh for the first couple days of adjusting to the new head gear. You've done great so far. It doesn't seem to bother you at all and you look pretty cute in it. (I'll write more about that later.)You've become incredibly active and fast this past month. I wrote already about how daring you are and how quickly you get around so I won't go into that, but it seems like everyday you try something new. I'm getting a lot more exercise these days and I can only image that that will increase.I finally had a epiphany this last month, (it only took me 4 months to figure it out) you don't like pureed foods. The only thing you would eat pureed is sweet potatoes, and now that I look back, that phase was pretty short lived. You're very independent, you see us feeding ourselves, and you want to do the same. I didn't want to give in, but I decided that 'letting you pick what you ate' was better than you not eating. By 'letting you pick,' I mean, I usually come to the table (highchair) with 2 or 3 options (usually just at dinner time) we try until you've tasted all of them and then I follow your lead. Breakfast is usually yogurt and/or oatmeal, lunch in usually a vegi that I somehow sneak in with some fruit, as well as some crackers or bread, and dinner is up to you (kind of). We've started you on "human food" much sooner than I thought we would, but I was out of options! By "human food" I mean, what dad and I are eating and I try to give it to you in bite size/finger food form so you can feed yourself. Here's a list of what you've tried, (mostly for me to look back at in case we have another picky/easily distracted eater:
bread
crackers
cherrios
watermelon
cantaloupe
grapes
yogurt
whole grain rice
mac and cheese
spaghetti (noodles and a little sauce)
chicken meat balls (with shredded apples and onions in them)
green beans
cherries
tomatoes
zucchini (wow you love this stuff)
baked potatoes
mashed potatoes
cheese
corn
bananas
avocado
pizza
pancakes
beets
pickles
frozen whole fruit bars
I'm sure I've left some out but this is stuff you really enjoy that comes to mind.
You usually have a couple snacks during the day too, (depending on how long I had your attention during meal times). Those are usually fresh fruit or gerber graduate snacks like yogurt melts, lil crunchers, and apple wagon wheels. It sounds overwhelming, but meal times are actually getting much easier now. You're still mimicking what people do. Like, clicking your tongue, flipping your lips, playing peek-a-boo, putting your hands in the air, and repeating 'mama' and 'dada'. And I think you've learned the meaning of the word, 'no'. You don't act like you know it but I'm pretty sure you do. If we say no to something like crawling out the door, playing with a computer cord, or trying to grab a glass of water, you stop until we look away and then you go for it again. Or if we're telling you not to crawl somewhere you usually laugh and crawl away faster. You still love the water and we've taken you swimming several times. You love people watching at Disneyland (and anywhere we go). You still take 2 long naps a day and sometimes a third short one. You still sleep 10-12 hours a night. You like music and you've started to bounce when you're standing. You're getting tan, even though we use sunscreen on you. You've now had 3 haircuts and we're thinking about cutting it really short now so you don't get too hot in your doc band. You have your 9 month well check tomorrow so I'll try to remember to update again after that. As well as doc band stuff, camping, our family vacation and other fun summer stuff.
